Welcome

Welcome

Students’ Industrial Training started at the University of Ibadan in 1972 with the creation of a unit known as Industrial Coordination Unit in the then Institute of Applied Science and Technology which later transformed to Faculty of Technology. This Unit was modelled after the Cooperative Education & Career Services Centre of the University of Waterloo in Canada. It was established to coordinate industrial training of Engineering and Technology students in the Faculty. The initial handling of the coordination of the students’ industrial training activities was by the Canadian experts who were brought in by Canadian Industrial Development Agency [CIDA] who facilitated the programme.

Process of Industrial Training Programme

Process of Industrial Training Programme

The process of participating in Industrial Training begins with students’ registration at the beginning of a new session. This registration is subject to the receipt of the list of eligible students from the participating departments and evidence of payment of the prescribed fees. Students are then issued with registration forms and student manual especially to those participating in the programme for the first time. The student manual explains what the students need to know concerning the programme from the beginning to a successful completion of the exercise. For health reasons, pregnant students are not allowed to participate in SIWES. They are however allowed immediately they are strong enough to cope with the rigours of the industrial training.
